Rod's Elk Hunt

Thanks to our Son In Law Khris who put Rod in for a special draw permit this year, Rod had a great experience Hunting Elk. With the Help of Khris's family and Derek and Cameron, they found a big bull. It was a 24 hour day from beginning to end before the day of the hunt was over.
It never could have happened without so much help from everyone. Riley and Grandma stayed with the horses for 12 hours and played tic tack toe in the dirt. It was a long day for us.
The moon was so bright that night that we were able to ride out to the trucks with no flashlights at all. It was a beautiful night but a bit chilly.
We had many miracles that day that saved money and our lives. Khris's truck lost its clutch but not until we were safe on the mountain. Derek lost his GPS, but found it in front of him hanging on a bush. Kent lost Clay's radio in the morning on our ride in to where the elk where, but he knew where it was and found it in the dark on the ride to the trucks that night.
You just know after that many good things happening that someone is looking out for us.
A great time was had by all.

Fishing At Ostler Lake

It looks like they caught all the fish, but really I did. We just couldn't keep them off the hook they were so hungry. We had a great day.

On the Trail

The trail so so rocky but beautiful

Michelle, Rod, Sassy ( the dog)
Horses are Biddy, Skip, and Sugar.
My horse is Glory.

Christmas Meadows and Ostler Lake

Ostler Lake is so beautiful. The fishing is always great here. I couldn't keep them off the hook. We had a great fish dinner that evening

We always camp in this meadow. The horses love the lush grass and the stream. There are little fish in it all the time.

To The Mountain Aug 27, 2008

We headed to Christmas Meadows our favorite pack trip camp. We have been here many times with our children and friends.
This trip our daughter Michelle left her four kids and husband and made the trip with us.
It made it way more special for all of us.
Oh those beautiful mountains.

The mighty Mississippi

The river was flooding everywhere. Some road were closed leaving Nauvoo. It is interesting to see the power of nature.
Spring as come and Nauvoo is so beautiful. So many different trees in blossom, green grass everywhere. How we will miss this beautiful place. The river hold a magic that I have never know before. It is a different scene every day.

Jax Maxfield

How great to have another boy in the family. He looks a little like his Daddy. What a joy it is going to be to come home to such darling Grandchildren.

We are so blessed to have so many healthy happy little ones.

Maxfield's In Nauvoo May 2008

Spring finally made it to Nauvoo. I almost thought I was in Woodland with the long cold winter. But very little snow.
We had a wonderful visit with Derek, Stacy and the girls. What a delight they are.

We didn't realize how homesick we were. We can hardly wait to be home with them all again.

We are soo busy that the weeks left here and flying by. We have a lot to do. So I don't want to wish this time away.

Nauvoo is a very special place. The people who were here so many years ago have come alive for me here. I love and honor them for their sacrifice and courage.

The people who are here now have become such special friends. Dear good people I shall love forever.

I realize more every day how blessed we are. How did we ever get to come to the world at this very wonderful time.
It just makes me want to be so much better and to do so much more.

New Years Eve Party

Check out Grandpa. He was afraid to get his hair messed up.
The game was unwrap the gift with gloves on until the next person
rolled doubles on the dice.
Sorry the flash didn't work but he still looks pretty cute.
We had such a good time. Everyone even stayed to the party until
12:30 AM. I think that was a record for the mission. Some parties where over at 10:30. One even started at 4 and everyone was home by 7:30 . How boring.
